Dominica has two small airports, Canefield (DCF) and Melville Hall (DOM). These airports are served by Liat and Carib Aviation (Dominica Air taxi), both fly from various other Caribbean islands. American Eagle (part of American Airlines), fly from Puerto Rico. Depending on where you fly from, an overnight stay is sometimes necessary.
For European guests, it's probably best to come via Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, St. Martin or Guadeloupe.
There is also a service run by KLM from Amsterdam to St. Marteen.
Cheap charter flights from the U.K. are often available to these islands, as an alternative to scheduled flights.
From France, there are also some good deals on flights to Guadeloupe or Martinique, and you can then either fly on to Dominica with Liat or Caribbean Star, or catch the ferry to complete your journey.
North American clients are advised to fly via Puerto Rico and use American Eagle, Liat, or Caribbean Sun to complete their journey, or often a cheap route is from Dallas to Barbados followed by a connection on Caribbean Star. Air France fly twice a week from Miami to Guadeloupe, from where you can easily connect to Dominica either by plane or by ferry.
ALL CLIENTS USING THE AMERICAN EAGLE SERVICE FROM PUERTO RICO SHOULD READ THE NOTE AT THE END OF THIS PAGE

There is also a ferry service linking Dominica with St. Lucia, Guadeloupe and Martinique. it is called L'Express des Iles and they run about 5 days a week. Their schedules are subject to regular change, so you should check their website or call their agent in Dominica at Whitchurch Travel Agency on telephone number 1 767 448 2181 and ask for the Express des Iles desk
An interesting alternative, if you are planning a long holiday, can be to travel as a passenger on a cargo ship. Four 12-passenger containerships sail between Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe and Fort-de-France, Martinique on one side and Dunkerque, Le Havre, Rouen, Nantes (Montoir) and occasionally Felixstowe, UK on the other side, with ocean crossings taking approximately 9 days and port time 5 - 6 days on each side. The cost is about US$2000. Click here for more details. There is also a freighter, The Amazing Grace, that sails from Miami to Trinidad, stopping on the way in Dominica. Visit Windjammer Barefoot Cruises for more information.
Whether you arrive at one of the airports, or at the ferry terminal, there are normally plenty of taxis waiting. Whichever your port of entry, the journey time is around an hour, and expect to pay around EC$180 / US$70 for your taxi. Alternatively, there are buses, and hitchiking works well enough.
