This is The Carbet, a traditonal Carib Indian lodge, made from Citronel, or Lemon Grass, a material that can be found in many areas of Dominica by the roadsides, and it grows back very quickly.
You need to hike for about 15 minutes up a fairly hilly trail directly behind our main eco lodge to reach the jungle accommodation. The walk is pretty steep, and is not suited to all of our guests, but when you reach your lodge, the area is flat and you will certainly not be disturbed; except by the wildlife.
The has a traditional wooden double bed and a hammock; the only additional western comforts are a mattress and a mosquito net.
There is an electric light, powered by a wind turbine which is mounted 100 feet up in the trees over the jungle canopy. There is a communal forest composting toilet, shower and kitchen nearby, using collected rainwater, and fresh drinking water is filtered in the kitchen.
A member of the jungle lodge staff will visit you regularly upon request. They are there to assist you throughout your stay in Dominia. If you want them to fetch and carry, or show you the traditional methods of cooking and general jungle living, all you need do is ask.
If it is solitude and/or tranquillity that you seek, The Carbet jungle lodge, deep in the jungle, will really provide you with the opportunity to be alone and enjoy the true beauty of the rain forest.
